Overview

Crestview is a city in Okaloosa County, Florida, United States. With a population of 25,274 as of the 2020 United States Census, it is the largest city in the county. Crestview's name is derived from its location on the peak of a long woodland range between the Yellow and Shoal rivers.

History

Crestview was originally named the "Town of Yellow River" in 1912, but was later renamed to "Crestview" by the Postmaster General. The city was officially incorporated in 1916, and has since grown to become the largest city in Okaloosa County.

Geography

Crestview is located at 30.7547° N, 86.5720° W, and has an elevation of 235 feet (72 meters) above sea level. The city covers an area of 16.26 square miles (42.1 km²) and consists of mostly level terrain with some rolling hills.

Crestview experiences a humid subtropical climate, with hot and humid summers and mild to cool winters. The average annual temperature is 67.2°F (19.6°C), with an average high of 77.1°F (25.1°C) and an average low of 57.3°F (14.1°C). The city receives around 64 inches (1,625 mm) of rainfall annually.

Transportation

Crestview is served by the Okaloosa County Transit System, providing bus services throughout the city and surrounding areas. The city is also accessible by car via Interstate 10 and U.S. Route 90. The Bob Sikes Airport, a public-use airport, is located in the city and serves general aviation needs.

Crestview is part of the Okaloosa County School District and is home to several public schools, including Crestview High School, Davidson Middle School, and several elementary schools. The city also has a number of private schools and a campus of Northwest Florida State College.
